| Compact drive storage system holds up to eight 3.5"
hard drives. Easy way to add large amounts of storage to your media system.
Multiple cases can be stacked on top of each other for more capacity as your
media collection grows. An optional 3U (5.25")
one-piece rack mount faceplate is available for mounting into standard 19"
racks.
|
Passive cooling design transfers heat into
massive thick-walled outer case.
Large fins along both sides of the case add to the total surface area for
more effective heat dissipation. The thick aluminum used on all panels provides a "highway" for
effective heat transfer to the entire case.

With the faceplate removed, the drives can be seen inside. Drive orientation
was optimized for the most effective heat transfer and air flow. The new
modular design allows the case to be broken down in minutes for easy
servicing of drives. Only eight screws need to be removed to take apart the
entire case.
|
With the top panel and side heatsinks removed the two separate drive modules can be seen. Each module floats on special isolation pads designed to completely eliminate vibration from being transfer to the outer case. All drive connections are within easy reach for quick assembly.

Rear panel features two baffled air inlets to allow air to flow in freely
while blocking sound waves from escaping. A standard ATX power supply is
mounted in the center of the case. The power supply fan is the only fan used
for added cooling. Two SCSI-1/Centronics sized port openings on either side
of the power supply allow a variety of drive connection options.
|
Air inlets are designed for laminar flow over all the drives for very
effective cooling. The inner drive modules are held very close to the outer case
shell suspended only by the isolation pads. With the opposing plates right next to each other, heat is
transmitted by radiation to the outer shell without any mechanical
contact.

A external power supply is the best way to power the case. Our adapter plate
has a bracket for the iTuner PW-200-V DC-DC converter, a mounting hole for
the power cable socket, and a opening to mount a 80mm exhaust fan for
cooling.
|
The external power supply option frees up space inside the case which makes
it easier to assemble. The open space inside the case increases airflow
allowing the drives to run cooler. Having a separate fan gives you the most
options when selecting a quiet running fan.

The inner drive module floats on isolation pads to dampen vibrations from the
drives.
The isolation pads are contained within pockets machined into the top and
bottom panels. The small pads dampen vibrations from being transmitted. With isolation pads
on both sides of the chassis, the heavy assembly can float within the outer
case.
|
Extremely durable pads are specially designed for
this application. The size and firmness are finely tuned to the weight of
the drive module. The animated picture above shows how the material
swallows up the screwdriver blade, yet returns to its normal state
immediately with no compression set. This ensures the pad will not lose its
shape and effectiveness over time.

Air inlet baffle plate blocks sound waves from directly escaping through the
air inlet opening while allowing air to flow freely. Next to the baffle
plate is a eSATA 5-port Multiplier installed in one of two ports on
the rear panel.
|
Shown is a 8-port SATA break-out adapter installed. This is the simplest and
least expensive connection option. Drives are connected directly to a SATA
expansion card or motherboard SATA port with a single cable for each drive.
The same port adapter can be installed on your HTPC case for routing the
cables to the motherboard SATA ports.

Connection Options |
|
|
There are several ways to connect the Mass-storage 8X case to the host
computer. The two ports on the case will fit any standard SCSI/Centronics
mounting plate. We sell some of the adapters shown. Other
adapters shown can be purchased online from various vendors. A simple Google
search can locate current vendors.

Basic 8-port adapter with back to back SATA connectors. This
connector will allow regular SATA-I cables to connect each drive. This is
the lowest cost method to attach the external drives to your
HTPC case.
|
4-Channel External Multi-Lane connector with 4 SATA2 Ports. Supports up to 3Gb/s Data Transfer Rate on one interface cable. Custom SCSI mounting plate and Multi-Lane adapter is available to purchase with case, please see order form.

The latest in Silicon Image's SATALink™ family, the SiI 3726™ is a 1-to-5
Serial ATA (SATA) Port Multiplier designed to provide a high-performance
link between a single SATA host port and five SATA device ports. eSATA
adapter supports 1.5Gb and 3.0Gb transfer rate. Requires eSATA cable and
eSATA expansion card or port on motherboard. Right-angle SATA drive cables
must be used with this adapter. Note: We do not sell this adapter,
but a Google search will turn up some vendors. For more information about using a port multiplier see:
|
4-port eSATA adapter supports 1.5Gb and 3.0Gb transfer rate and RAID
function on each port. This adapter can be used to support future higher
speed drives where one cable per drive is needed for maximum speed. But can
also be used today with slower speed drives. The cost per cable will be
higher.
